Slipping Sand

I watch you, there with him
Lovers of mine that have known the heartache of each
Understood the great valleys from where we have crawled
And the undying heights to which we have gone
I have seen you there before
Empty, yet filled
Overflowing, yet dry
What is it that you wish for?
What is it that you want?
I try to nourish
Yet it is I who is depleted
Drawn out
Searching for water in a barren land
Thirsty for a taste of something
Hands outreached to all
Sand slipping through the fingers
